How to change code for S&G Model 6121

Below will be some basic instructions on how to change the User code, Master code, Supervisor code and how to delete a user or supervisor code. There is only one Master code so it cannot be deleted only changed. You will need the master code with out it you will not be able to change the master code.

The default code from the factory is 123456#

To Change the Master code (code #1)... Must be 6 digits
PRESS: [ 7 ,4] (MASTER CODE) # 1 * (NEW MASTER CODE) # (NEW MASTER CODE) #

After the final # is pressed the lock will make three distinct chirps to indicate that the Master code has been accepted. If a long series of closely spaced chirps sounds the new code was not accepted and the old code remains.

To Change The Supervisor code (Code#2)... Must be 6 digits
PRESS: [ 7 ,4] (MASTER or SUPER code) # 2 * (NEW SUPER CODE) # (NEW SUPER CODE) #

After the final # is pressed the lock will make three distinct chirps to indicate that the Supervisor code has been accepted. If a long series of closely spaced chirps sounds the new code was not accepted and the old code remains.

To Change a User code... Must be 6 digits
PRESS: [7,4](MASTER or SUPER code) # (USER I.D. 3 Through 9) * ( New user code) # (New user code) #

To Delete a User or Supervisor code
Press: [7,4] * (code to delete) # (User I.D. 2 Through 9) * # #

After the final # is pressed the lock will make three distinct chirps to indicate that the user code has been deleted. If a long series of closely spaced chirps sounds, the has not been delete.

Default Programming code:     97531 *

Change programming code: [Program code] * 7 * [New code] * [New code] *

Add Standard user: [Program code] * 3 * [New Code] **

Delete user:    [Program Code] * 5 * [Code to Delete]* *

Add toggle user:    [Program Code] * 33 * 191 * [New code] * *

How to change the combination of a S&G mechanical safe lock

Sargent and Greenleaf
Model 6730, 6735, 6738, 6741 Mechanical Combination Lock

When preparing to change the combination on any Mechanical safe lock you will need the following.

safe change tool(key) that is made for that particular safe dial wheel set up.
The old safe combo(The combo you are changing)
The new combo(Which shouldn't be too simple or close to the old code for security reasons)

Once these essentials are acquired we can begin the set-up
Now you want to open the safe and keep the door open at all times even after the safe combo has been change to check the combo at least 2-3 times with the door open to insure that the wheels set properly and to make sure the combo works well.

The change index- Every Sargent and Greenleaf dials should have a "Change Index line" Which is the line to the left of the Opening index line. Once the safe is open you must dial the old code to the change line for the wheels to line up properly so you can insert your change tool in the back of the housing. Insert the tool fully and rotate 90º Counter-Clockwise. You will hear a "Click". Now follow the instructions below to set your new combo.

How to set to a new combination:

1.Turn the dial left until the first new numbers aligns with the

changing index the fourth time.

2.Turn the dial right until the second new number aligns with

the changing index the third time.

3.Turn the dial left until the third new number aligns with the

changing index the second time.

At this point your wheels are lined up.

5. Turn the changing tool approximately 90º clockwise and remove
it from the lock.

*Do not pull on the change tool until it has been

fully rotated to the same position that you inserted it initially.

How to pick a Lock

When learning to pick a lock you must know how a lock functions and the purpose and application of the lock you are picking. There are some locks that are nearly impossible to pick, at least some will seem that way to a novice lock picker. The skills you are about to learn are not intended for illegal use.

Here are a few different types of locks and how to approach picking them when the time comes.

Pin and tumbler locks. These are the majority of locks that are out there and that are not high security locks,

The objective is to separate the Top pin from the bottom pin in each chamber. These can be accomplished several different ways,

Picking by hand, these involves some skill
Using a pick gun, common for novice pickers
Using a bump key, one of the easiest ways to learn

I myself use all three depending on the application.

When picking a lock by hand you need to put slight pressure in either direction so that the pins catch on the ledge of the cylinder. The principal is that through the machining process not that chamber holes are the same size, or not of the pins are the same width and the chamber holes are not perfectly straight.

When you apply light pressure in either direction you want to push the pins up one at a time, going in and out until the lock is picked.

GM stops giving out key codes to companies

Its been a little over a month now since GM has decided to only give out key codes to the owners of their vehicles. Owners must go to their dealer in person with their Driver's License and a valid registration to obtain a key code and or key. For many mobile locksmiths and towing companies this could pose a problem. The earlier model key way (before the "Z" key way) have the key code stamped on the lock and the lock must be picked and removed to find the key code, or cuts from the door must be taken and the key progressed.
